The Ministry of Home Affairs has blocked 54 other Chinese applications today, including the popular war theme, Garena Free Fire. The game saw some of the highest number downloaded last year, with a 72 percent increase in inputs compared to 2020 - shortly after PUBG Mobile was banned.

What is Free Fire?
Free Fire is actually a free fighting game in Krafton's PUBG series, though it has a small number of players. In the game, 50 survivors are stationed on the island to search for weapons and supplies, as they fight to remain the last man standing.
Similar to PUBG, as time goes on, the safe play area available keeps shrinking, closing the rest of the crowd in a tight circle - thus lifting the poles. To make it easier to cross, one can drive around in abandoned cars and look at loot and goods released into the air two or three times during a 10-minute session. While these crates are tempting with the look, they are an open invitation for nearby players to camp and hunt, as your space is exposed to the colorful smoke coming out of it.
This was a source of controversy last month, when PUBG developer Krafton filed two lawsuits against Garena, accusing the company of copying multiple machines, including a copyrighted "air pollution" feature.
The players also noticed obvious similarities between the two games, apart from the way the characters dressed. PUBG and BGMI (India's Battlefields) take a realistic approach, adding military equipment and armor to the game. Garena Free Fire, however, adorns its characters with vivid colors, intricate voice lines, and artistic style reminiscent of Fortnite.
Interestingly, Krafton also had a legal dispute with Epic Games, when they called Fortnite for copying their battle royale format and mechanics. The case was eventually dropped, though no settlement was heard.
It should be noted that the concept of 'warfare' originally originated in a Japanese novel with the same name as the author Koushun Takami in 1999.
How does Free Fire make money?
Typically, free mobile games or apps put ads in them, which when you click or watch them add to the company's advertising revenue. However, multiplayer online games such as Free Fire and PUBG are against this system and prefer to make money on their product with in-game makeup and battle pass system.
The combat world acts as a calendar, offering new skins and bonus items to players to earn XP earned. Free Fire adds daily and weekly challenges, which when completed provide experience points that can be used to unlock special rewards. Players called ‘Elite Pass’ can buy it using 400 diamonds (a type of in-game currency) through an in-game store.
For reference, spending Rs 89 gives you 100 diamonds, while a package of Rs 250 comes with 310 diamonds. So, in order to buy a combat world, one would have to spend Rs 339, earning 410 diamonds - the rest of which could be used to buy cheaper or stored items later.
What is Free Fire Max?
Yes, there are two versions of this - both are free to download. Free Fire Max is not on the banned list of games so it is available for you to download right now. Free Fire actually reports on what you can think of as a 'Lite' version of the game, taking up minimal resources while sacrificing virtual fidelity. For Android, the minimum requirement to use Free Fire is 1GB of RAM, which is readily available on most modern phones.
Free Fire Max, on the other hand, requires a minimum of 4GB of what is considered "decent performance", adding enhanced image details, enhanced animation and animation, and better drawing distances that help you see distant enemies clearly while shooting.
The main game remains the same, both titles get the same updates as the season events you should participate in.
