One sleep routine can improve your mental health

Do you go to the bed to sleep and awake at the same time every day? If you don't, you increase your chances of suffering not only from negative emotions but also from depression, according to a new study.

Sleep patterns of more than 2,000 trainee doctors were analyzed for more than 100 days as part of a study, conducted by the University of Michigan. A smart device on each student’s wrist tracks their bedtime and other activities, before and after their initial training.

A typical student-trained routine - or lack of one - includes late bedtime, early morning wake, and major sleep and long-term changes, all of which have been found to be detrimental to their mood the next day.

The study participants re-recorded their status using the app and completed a patient health care test every three months. The results of the "previous" and "post" internships were then compared.

This study, published in the journal Nature's npj Digital Medicine, suggests that irregular periods of sleep and wakefulness increase the risk of depression - and can be even more dangerous to mental stability than not obtaining sufficient sleep.

The link between sleep disorders and depression has also been noted in other studies. In one survey of over 40 people in the United States, 57 percent said that they had difficulty sleeping or sleeping, while 46 percent said that they felt depressed or depressed.

International standards for mental health

Although medical school students who are young, who have studied at the University of Michigan - and US adult studies - may not represent a global population, the results of both studies indicate how widespread mental health problems such as depression are.

The UN estimates that 1 in 4 people worldwide will have a mental illness.

And there are high levels of stress, especially in some countries, according to a worldwide consumer survey by Statista. In Sweden, 46% of respondents said that they had experienced mental health problems in the last 12 months, as did about two-fifths of those surveyed in the US, Brazil and Russia. But it is important to note that these findings may be influenced by the country's international acceptance of mental health issues.

The effect of sleep on physical health

Poor or poor sleep can also reduce the risk of infections such as the common cold, according to a separate study.

Not only sleep patterns but sleep patterns - the percentage of bedtime - for 153 adults aged 21-55 were tested 14 days by scientists at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. The study participants were then exposed to the rhinovirus and monitored the symptoms of the common flu.

They found that participants who slept less than seven hours a night were about three times more likely to have the flu than those who had an average of eight hours. Similarly, participants who experienced 92% good sleep were five and a half times more likely to get the flu than those with 98% sleep.

In short, poor sleep and short sleep periods in weeks before exposure to a rhinovirus were associated with lower resistance to disease.

So the next time you think it's a good idea not to sleep all night and sleep all day, it might be a good idea to think again.
