Birth and Family:

The CDS General Bipin Rawat was born in Pauri, Uttarakhand. His father, Laxman Singh Rawat, had served in the Indian Army and had risen to the rank of Lieutenant-General. Her mother was the daughter of a former Uttarakhand MP in Uttarkashi.

Bipin Rawat's Education: 

He received his formal education at Cambrian Hall School in Dehradun and St. Edward's School, Shimla, and went on to join the National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, where he was honored with 'Sword of Honor. '.

He also graduated from Defense Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, and Higher Command Course at United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

He also held the M.Phil. degree in Defense Studies and a diploma in Management and Computer Studies from the University of Madras. For his research on military media strategy, he was honored with a Doctor of Philosophy by Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.

CDS Bipin Rawat: Military Service

On 16 December 1978, CDS Bipin Rawat was deployed in the 5th battle of 11 Gorkha Rifles, the same unit as his father Laxman Singh Rawat. He spent 10 years doing anti-rebel activities and worked on a variety of topics from Major to current CDS.

While serving as Majoro's successor, CDS Bipin Rawat directed the Ur company in Jammu and Kashmir. He commanded his army near the LAC in Kibithu as Colonel. After being promoted to Brigadier, he served as the 5th Sector of Rashtriya Rifles at Sopore and the multinational Brigade on the Chapter VII mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), where he was twice honored with the Commander-in-Chief's Order.

Bipin Rawat took over as General Officer Commanding 19th Infantry Division in Ur when he was promoted to Major General. As a Lieutenant General, he commanded the III Corps, headquartered in Dimapur before taking over the Southern Army in Pune.

He took up the post of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Southern Command after being promoted to the rank of Army Commander. Shortly afterward, he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff.

He was appointed 27th Army Commander by the Government of India on 17 December 2016 and took office on 31 December 2016. He also served as the 57th and final Chairman of the Indian Army's Chief of Staff Committee. He was appointed as the first CDS on December 30, 2021, and took office on January 1, 2020.
